IKONS is a great place to start!

Unlike the rest of you whiners, I will try to stick to a REVIEW of this compilation.
If you want to introduce someone to KISS or expand your own knowledge of their repoirtoire, this is a great place to start!
Each disc puts together a collection of songs from each of the original members of the "Hottest Band in the World!" under their respective character. Gene is The Demon, Paul is the Star Child, Ace is the Space Ace and Peter is the Cat Man.
The tunes selected for this compilation are not JUST the hits. They are a broad view of where KISS went musically during its heyday. It is refreshing to hear some of these tracks out of context of the original record sequence. The sound quality has also been cleaned up immensely over the years thanks to digital remastering. I had quite a good time listening to the collection.
I think it is important to point out, this retrospective does not include any songs from KISS without Peter and Ace in the band.
There is only one song from each of Paul and Gene’s solo records. The ones included are not tracks I would have chosen, but they represent the respective members well. There are absolutely no songs past the DYNASTY album on Gene or Paul’s discs; not even from the reunion era (Psycho Cicus, etc.)
On Ace and Peter’s sets, there are 4 to 5 songs from each of their solo records and both include their tracks from the last KISS studio record, Psycho Circus. Their sets are retrospectives in the fullest sense.
Peter’s contribution to the GROUP is undeniable when you listen through his collection. Peter’s solo album had an R&B feel and always left a funky taste with fans so those tracks stick out when put in context of the rest of the KISS material.
As another review pointed out, Ace had his hands on all the other members records and it reinforces the fact that KISS would not have been KISS without his touch. Incidentally, the best track off (Music from) The Elder is on Ace’s disc.
While I am a KISS fan (and have been for 33 years), it is frustrating to not have a record of new music from the group. If you want a fix for "new" material, check out Jigoku Retsuden, a collection of re-recorded hits with the current incarnation of KISS playing and singing. While it is fun at high volume, it lacks the "hunger and heart" of the original KISS recordings.
As for complaining that this is just another money hungry move from Gene and Paul: GET OVER IT! The record label owns these recordings now. KISS only gets royalties from this collection. (Which in the grand scheme is only 8 cents a song from every disc pressed.) I am sure that Ace and Peter absolutely LOVE the paychecks they will make.
Until the next collection, with the 15th version of "Rock and Roll All Nite" comes out, I am thankful to have something that I ENJOY! I am sick of buying puzzles, condoms, comics, posters, tshirts, books, light switch plates, dolls, blankets, hats, "artwork", pencils, masks, pool cues, cars, magazines, board games, bed sheets, etc..... Get the point.
How many greatest hits album can you make?!?!?!

I like Kiss, but really?
Just one quick question....

WTF??? One huge KISS fan embarrassed by another "greatest hits" release. Hey Gene....of you want more money, make another movie or TV show. Stop sucking the life out of this band.
